Trivial Tidbits

To all the people who complain about women drivers: A woman actually made the first long drive in an automobile. Her name was Bertha Benz, and she did a few things a man probably couldn’t have done along the way. One, she had to insulate some wire with a garter (and yes, men may have worn garters at the time), and two, she used a hairpin to unclog a blocked fuel pipe (men did not wear those).

More notably, she brought a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old on the 60-mile trip with her, and they did not kill each other.

To all the people who like explosive glass: Check out Prince Rupert’s Drops. (Yes, they’re safe for work, what kind of blog do you think this is?) They’re a form of tempered glass. This shows the process and explains the science. This shows them blowing up.

To all the people who want to put diamonds in your eyes: You can.

To all the people who miss the 1980s trend of transparent electronics: It’s actually an older trend than you thought.

To all the people who like sauerkraut Jell-O: What is wrong with you?

What is wrong with you???!!
